COMPULSORY BUS STOP REQUEST BUS STOP
These have a white background with the London Buses symbol in red painted onto this. Below on a red stripe is the words 'Compulsory Stop'.

All buses are required to stop at these stops. You do not need to indicate to the driver to stop, whether you wish to get on or off the bus.

Location of the stop is written within the grey section immediately below. The direction of buses serving the stop is written below that. Finally, all routes serving that stop are listed on tiles below.

To stop a bus at this stop you should put your hand out clearly for the driver to see and keep it out until the driver signals that they are going to stop. When wishing to alight, you should press the bell once - this lights up stopping signs throughout the bus. If this is already lit up, someone has already rung the bell. You do not need to ring the bell again.

NIGHT BUSES TREAT ALL STOPS AS REQUEST STOPS. At many Bus Stops there are Shelters to make the waiting environment pleasant. These stops show local area maps, and are often used to show notices affecting services at the stop. Spider diagram maps are shown at bus shelters, or on bus stops in Central London in local town centres.

In town centres or other locations where there are many bus stops situated within a short distance, each stop will carry a letter on a red disc. At each bus stop a map will show the location of these. As not every bus will serve each stop along their route in the town centre, these letters and maps are designed to help you locate the stop you need.
